In 1998 Northeast Louisiana University celebrates the 20th anniversary of Malone Stadium with six home football games. It will be the first season that the Indians will have had as many as six games in Malone since being reclassified Division I-A in 1994.

The largest portion of the stadium is the two-deck concrete structure on the west side.  Most of the stadium's 2,972 chair back seats, as well as 20 open air corporate boxes and seating for those with special needs are located on the lower concourse. At the top of the upper level seating is located a two-level skybox. The bottom floor of the skybox houses over 300 theater-style seats for top athletic boosters. The top level of the skybox, which seats over 100, consists of eight separate box suites for use by the working press, NLU's President, NLU's Athletic Director, Public Address and Scoreboard operators, home and visiting team coaches, and home and visiting team radio. There are plans to add an additional suite for the visiting team Athletic Director. The west side of Malone Stadium is elevated 133 feet above ground level.

The east side seating is also a double-deck structure. Current renovations will add nine enclosed corporate suites which will be completed for the 1998 season. In addition, there are plans to replace the south end zone scoreboard with a more modern board. The new scoreboard structure will provide a large color matrix board, new stadium sound system and filming platforms.
